Maysles Cinema is now accepting applications for its Teen Producers Academy 2017 Summer Program - a six week film intensive where students work in small groups to produce a documentary on a subject important to them and their communities.
The program will run Mondays, Wednesday, Fridays from 10:00am – 4:00pm from July 10 to August 18, 2017. Participation is free, but students must submit an application by Friday, April 7, 2017. The on-line application can be submitted HEREmaysles-teen1

Participants will learn how to produce a short documentary film while working within a small production team. This includes telling a powerful story from a simple concept, how to use an HD camera and professional audio recording equipment, and the art of cinematography and film editing. Students will learn the art of interviewing, and will also learn how to use professional editing software.

Maysles is looking for motivated high school sophomores, juniors or seniors who love film and have a genuine interest in learning how to produce a documentary film. Citywide teens are welcome to apply, however, they do give preference to students from Harlem, Upper Manhattan, and the Bronx.

Selected students are expected to commit to all dates of the program and work collaboratively with other aspiring filmmakers. No prior experience or equipment is needed – just a positive attitude and genuine creativity! For questions, please contact education@maysles.org.
