Three years in and Lenox Ave ‘s Harlem Shake is spreading its signature blend of burgers and swag to East Harlem. Located on 2nd Avenue at 11th Street, the new location boasts Harlem Shake’s menu faves plus neighborhood-inspired dishes, such as a Pulled Pernil Sandwich with sour orange mojo, refried black beans and chipotle mayo; a Frita Cubana featuring a seasoned pork and beef patty topped with shoestring fries; and Tostones served with mojo and chipotle dips. Specialty drinks like Guava iced tea and a  Poppin’ Parcha milkshake (passionfruit) have also been added to the menu to wash everything down with unique El Barrio flavor!

Not unlike the flagship location, the new spot sports a nostalgic design that shines a light on the neighborhood and the people that make it special – its residents! In lieu of the iconic Wall of Fame, however, East Harlem has its very own Wall of Fro, showcasing headshots of current Harlemites with eye-popping natural coifs. The main dining area additionally features round corner booths, sourced vintage objects, old-school ads and a coin-operated ’62 juke box filled with locally-curated, classic 45s. The two restrooms are distinguished by vintage fixtures and very uncommon wall paper: One features over 160 original Luke Cage Power Man comic book covers. (Befittingly, Cage was Marvel’s first African American superhero whose first heroic feat occurred at a Harlem diner.) The other bathroom is plastered with over 600 JET Magazine covers and more than 100 classic JET Beauties. The time and detail committed by the Harlem Shake team and locals to highlight the community’s present and past through its food, decor, and Uptown vibe are just as evident and energetic here as they are at the beloved, original location. East Harlem is in for a fun and tasty ride!

Harlem Shake’s East Harlem location is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week, Sunday –Thursday from 8AM to 11PM, Friday-Saturday 8AM -2AM.  The restaurant is located at 2162 2nd Avenue (at East 111th Street).
